Is the DNC worried about Fred?
Written by Benaiah on June 13th, 2007Could Fred Thompson garner the Reagan Democrats for 2008? Looks like the DNC thinks so.
Free speech is NOT alive and well within the Democrat Party. The DNC had to close the comment section on their blog post regarding Fred Thompson. In an attempt to bash Thompson, the DNC posted The Fred Thompson “Dummies Guide to Diplomacy”. Check out some of these excerpts from comments from DNC blog visitors. Looks like the Reagan Democrats might feel right at home with Thompson –

Fred Thompson fits the conservative base like a dress pattern. If he could appeal to the average American’s patriotism that could spell doom for the Democrats. The only problems is that of the war and a Republican president already in the White House. Americans are sick of the war and don’t believe anyone that thinks it can be won, and Thompson might be guilty by association with Dubya. These are just two big issues that a Republican has to jump over to land in the White House. Bush has tainted the whole party, which might be the only thing he accomplished throughout his presidency. We are not going to take back Congress anytime soon.
Also. Republican are behind the learning curve with regards to National Health. Most people, even lots of Republicans, are for some form of national health care. It is getting too expensive and too restrictive in the “free market.” All the hype by Republicans about the Clinton plan in the mid- 1990’s is coming true and it is the formula that Republican advocated back then. Thompson should advocate some form of it if he once a legitmate shot at the Oval Office.

“Thompson should advocate some form of it [National Health Care] if he once a legitmate shot at the Oval Office.”
That will never, ever happen. I am baffled at anyone who thinks socialism would be an improvement on our current system. There are alternatives to the current system, but nationalizing health care isn’t one of them, not in this country, not ever.

Your scare quotes around free market explain everything. You adequately describe the problem with health care, but fail in coming up with the right solution to fix it. There is no free market in health care. The government has mandated and forced insurance companies to cover things against their will.
Example: Why should a single male be covered for pregnancy as most states mandate? Why should he be covered for female birth control?
Loosen the strings on Insurance companies to allow for greater competition in variety of plans offered and you will have cheaper health care.

Well, the DNC has run a number of hits on Romney too, and I’ve seen at least one on Giuliani.
