McLaughlin to Challenge Walter Jones (NC-3)

Written by Sam on July 16th, 2007

Onslow County Commissioner, Joe McLaughlin, has entered the race for North Carolina’s Third Congressional District, challenging incumbent Walter Jones in the Republican Primary. McLaughlin claims he is running against Jones in response to Jones’ leftward shift over the past few years and frequent siding with Democrats on key votes. On McLaughlin’s Web site he does not indicate where he stands on the issues as of yet.

Politico notes that Jones has raised a poor amount of cash in the second quarter for being a primary election target, however, McLaughlin has raised even less than Jones.

McLaughlin’s speeches at the NCGOP convention and Civitas’ Conservative Leadership Conference were phenomenal… hopefully he can raise some serious money in the next few months.

How is Walter Jones not a conservative now? Is the only reason people are mad at him because he has broken with Bush’s radical left wing war for democracy? I have always thought he was one of the most consistent right wingers in Congress. If you could provide some examples of his leftism, I would be grateful. If he’s bad on other issues, than I agree, primary him.

However, if it’s just the war, it just shows that the phony left wing war is now the single issue of the American “Right” and the Stupid Party will follow that buffoon in the White House right off the cliff on this issue.

Bear in mind that my post is coming from the viewpoint of McLaughlin, not necessarily my own. I really haven’t examined Jones’ voting record. I am merely pointing out McLaughlin’s claim as to why he is challenging him.

Walter Jones is one of the BEST examples of a Christian Right Conservative in Washington.

His “leftward” move is on the war and the war alone…..he’s quite popular in his state so I doubt he’ll lose.

These people are the same people that think Ron Paul’s gonna lose his seat….despite him saying EXACTLY what he’s publically said all along(and he still gets elected by 20% margins in libertarian-leaning Texas).

Walter Jones will lose…..So will Joe Mclaughlin….
America is far greater than becoming like our enemy in order to defeat him. when the republicans began to resritct our liberties, in order to preserve them, they were falling right into the ideals of the enemy. We are greater than that.

Where then would our victory be if we became a different people?

We do not need another holy warrior and we do not need an old hand in Washington who helped to get us where we are today.

A Democrat will be in the seat after the 2008 election.

Who’s “we” Marshall? I think the bigger threat of us becoming a different people comes from mass immigration, not the Patriot Act. Jones is basically an antiwar paleo, suspicious of the state and the feds anyway.
