Dems Say Leaving Iraq May Take Years

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I bet the Commies over at Kos are wetting their pants over this one…….

Even as they call for an end to the war and pledge to bring the troops home, the Democratic presidential candidates are setting out positions that could leave the United States engaged in Iraq for years.

John Edwards, the former North Carolina senator, would keep troops in the region to intervene in an Iraqi genocide and be prepared for military action if violence spills into other countries. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York would leave residual forces to fight terrorism and to stabilize the Kurdish region in the north. And Senator Barack Obama of Illinois would leave a military presence of as-yet unspecified size in Iraq to provide security for American personnel, fight terrorism and train Iraqis.

Ames Straw Poll Results

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

It turned out pretty much the way I expected.  Romney finished first, Huckabee second, and Brownback third.  It’s hard to say how much of an indicator this poll will really be though, considering Giuliani and McCain were not present.  Additionally, the possible entrances of Fred Thompson and Gingrich could shake up the whole thing.  Tommy Thompson finished a miserable sixth place and Duncan Hunter even worse in ninth, so I think we are going to see the last of them very shortly.

  1. Romney - 31%
  2. Huckabee - 18.1%
  3. Brownback -  15.3%
  4. Tancredo -  13.7%
  5. Paul -  9.1%
  6. T. Thompson - 7.3%
  7. F Thompson
  8. Rudy Giuliani
  9. Duncan Hunter
  10. John McCain
  11. John Cox
