Huckabee and the Fair Tax
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007I gave up on the Fair Tax a long time ago because I just don’t believe it will become a reality with how affective a tool the current system is for political gain and the overall complacency of the American people concerning everything that is wrong with our nation, however my ears have perked up a bit on the subject recently. Mike Huckabee has been pushing the Fair Tax hard and he has been slowly gaining momentum over the past couple of months. Compounded with his showing in Iowa last weekend, he is a borderline first tier candidate now.
I still think he is an underdog and would be surprised at this point in time if he ended up the nominee, but I definitely consider him to be a real contender now. It would be interesting to see how much weight that issue could carry in a general Presidential election. I still have little hope that we will see the Fair Tax. Even if Huckabee were to become president I don’t see he how he would get it passed with a Democrat Congress. I don’t think it would pass with a Republican Congress, frankly. But, he is talking about it and that’s good national exposure for the issue.
