Who’s Going to Play Jimmy Stewart?
Friday, September 14th, 2007“The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several states. No Person shall be a Representative who shall not…when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.” — Article I, Section 2
Next week an unconstitutional bill that would give the District of Columbia a seat in Congress will come before the Senate. The illegal legislation is a thinly-veiled power grab by Democrats, with Tom Davis as a willing accomplice. They claim that it is not, as they will grant Utah an extra at-large Congressional seat until the next reapportionment. At that time, though, the at-large seat would be apportioned with the rest of the seats, potentially resulting in an extra seat in a state where the Democrats draw the Congressional boundaries while the DC seat remains just that. Senate Republicans can stop it, but only if someone plays the role of Jimmy Stewart and filibusters. (Okay, the Stewart filibuster is a thing of the past, but somebody has to lead the filibuster effort.) Paging Dr. Coburn, Dr. Tom Coburn.
