Palin Calls on Stevens to Respond

Written by Sean on September 25th, 2007

Go to fullsize imageAlaska Governor Sarah Palin is calling on Sen. Ted Stevens to respond to accusations of bribery.  Stevens has gone silent since the FBI raided his home in July.  Palin has already spoken out more than most elected officials about corruption in politics, especially that involving members of her own Party.

This is potentially extremely damaging to Stevens, against whom the Club for Growth is contemplating a primary challenge.  Could the former Senate Pro-Tempore be ousted in a primary?  If so, who might be able to pull off such a staggering upset of an entrenched incumbent from a state that relies heavily on federal dollars?  According to The Hill, the answer is Gov. Sarah Palin.  Palin has shown  no interest in challenging Stevens, but her 89% favorable rating must have the sitting Senator more than a little nervous that a Palin-supported primary challenge could put his career in serious jeopardy.

I had never heard of Gov. Palin prior to reading this entry. If her official bio and wikipedia bio are to be believed, she sounds like a very good public official.

    She’s only 43. Looks like a solid, good-government, reform-minded Republican.

I love the fact that Gov. Palin is speaking out against Stevens and asking for explanations.

The only thing I have liked about Romney’s campaign is the recent “we have to clean our own house” stuff he’s been putting out.

    I couldn’t agree more!!!

Perhaps we won’t need to challenge Stevens after all: A jury just found former state rep. Pete Kott guilty on three out of the four corruption charges. This is the most recent verdict in a string of upcoming corruption cases that have relied heavily on the FBI and oil executive evidence–the same evidence that has been making headlines the past few days about Uncle Ted’s corruption issues.

And oh yeah, Hooray for Sarah!!!! Wooohoo!

And another quick comment: The Club had better be involved in the AK Senate race in 2008. They made a HUGE mistake by ignoring the Mike Miller primary against Lisa Murkowski. We could have won that seat.
