Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Falling just shy of opponent Rodham Clinton’s proposal, Barack Hussein Obama came up with the runner-up in the “worst idea ever” contest.  He now wants to work toward a nuclear free world while also doubling foreign aid to $50 billion a year.  Talk about a Leave It to Beaver foreign policy.

If Obama really thinks that a nuclear-free world is possible, perhaps he should consider whether he locks his door when he leaves his home.  Regardless of whether one thinks people are good or evil by nature, the world is a dangerous place.  Nuclear weaponry cannot be uninvented.  It is a reality and will be permanently.  Whether he wants to believe it or not, China, Russia, and other potentially dangerous countries will not disarm their nuclear arsenals, even if they promise to do so.

What’s more, doubling foreign aid means that Americans will pay more every year to support people in other countries.  Now, having spent over a year in third world countries, I am well aware of just how badly many people need help.  I am also aware that there are few, if any, governments that actually would provide that aid given the means to do so.  If those people are to be helped, it is private organizations that are held accountable by those contributing to them that will ultimately give them the hand up that they so badly need.  Our government spending $50 billion will do nothing beyond hamper the ability of Americans who might otherwise contribute to such organizations to do so.

If the Democrats keep this up, we can expect to see them proposing a world-wide $1 million annual salary for two weeks of work by the next election.  They’ll want everyone to be required to be happy all the time, and criminals will be convinced not to commit their crimes ever again rather than punished.  And they’ll promise the elimination of disease through embryonic stem-cell research and people will be able to choose the dates and times of their own deaths.
