Domenici To Retire

Written by Sam on October 3rd, 2007

Republican Sen. Pete Domenici of New Mexico intends to retire at the end of his term next year, closing out a 36-year career in Congress, Republican officials said Wednesday.

These officials said the 75-year-old Domenici intends to make a formal announcement on Thursday in his home state. They spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid pre-empting the six-term lawmaker.

Strike another nail in the Senate GOP coffin.  That’s another seat we could very well lose.

At this point, the goal is starting to look like keeping the Democrats from getting to 60.

Heather Wilson has declared to run for NM. Hopefully whoever wins the R-NM primary will be an upgrade over Domenici.

I’m refraining from saying anything about Wilson until other potential candidates make their intentions clear.

I suspected Wilson would run for that seat.
