Endorsements

Written by Sam on November 7th, 2007
Televangelist Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, endorsed Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday.”It is my pleasure to announce my support for America’s Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, a proven leader who is not afraid of what lies ahead and who will cast a hopeful vision for all Americans,” Robertson said during a news conference with Giuliani in Washington.

My Way News

So people have asked about the endorsements. First of all, the Brownback endorsement is not that big of a deal because I don’t think he may have all that much sway despite how much he is admired by the “Religious Right.” The big one is Pat Robertson’s endorsement of Rudy Giuliani. Based on his words, I get the impression his endorsement comes out of fear of radical Islam spreading throughout the globe and Giuliani has a renowned reputation for being tough on crime. That’s my opinion, who knows. Whether or not this will help Giuliani remains to be seen. As I’ve said before, Rudy isn’t my ideal choice, but I have no issue with him really and will certainly support him as the Republican nominee if he gets it.

I found it kind of striking how Robertson listed his reasons for supporting Rudy… 1) foreign policy, 2) fiscal conservatism, 3) judges. When I went back and thought about it some, it appears Robertson has never been a one trick pony like most of the religious right leadership.

Not me. I will not vote for Rudy under any circumstance. I am not going to concede my convictions on life for any candidate. He is the same one who endorsed Mario Cuomo. He’s the same one who marched in Gay Pride parades. He gave to Planned Parenthood. Now we are supposed to trust him that he is going to nominate conservatives to the Supreme Court? Yeah, right. I cannot comprehend why any true conservative would even consider voting for him. If he wins the nomination, it will open the door for any liberal to run for the Republican nomination. Rudy will appoint gays and liberal judges, and everyone will say, “Well you KNEW he was pro-choice!”
I also find it amusing that Robertson sold out because of the war on terror. This excuse when he has been a very vocal opponent of the Irag War, to the point of undermining the war effort. He publicly and frequently refers to the Iraq War as a quagmire, crowing that he predicted such.
I’m either voting 3rd Party or I’ll write in my choice for Prez. Beyond that, it is Sanford or Santorum in 2012…

Before you hyperventilate over Rudy, why don’t you wait and see what happens. We don’t even know who the nominee will be yet.

As for Santorum, I can only laugh. Did you just smoke a big fatty or something? The guy got slaughtered in his reelection bid to the Senate, by like 20 points and you want to run him for President?

Sanford, on the other hand, would be awesome. He is my governor.

    Sanford / Coburn ‘12 (or vice-versa)!

OK, back to reality for a sec… I’m still not sure how I will take it if Rudy becomes our nominee. I will seriously consider joining Mr. Rinker on the 3rd party train. Why? I’m not a conservative ‘cuz all the cool kids are doing it (although they are). I’m a conservative because I believe in conservative principles that Rudy DOES NOT SHARE!

I don’t care how good a candidate Rudy may be- what good is winning an election if we have to surrender everything we believe in to do so?

True enough about Santorum, but if he ran for governor of Pennsylvania and won in 2010…..?

Santorum has as much chance of getting elected governor of Pennsylvania as I do.

Stranger things have happened. Lincoln lost to Douglas and then won the Presidency.

Lincoln lost a Senate race that featured a state legislature as the elector remember. Santorum got romped by significant margin by the whole population.

Still… IF Hillary wins (God forbid), there will be a significant backlash and 2010 would be a big Republican year.
Even if Thompson won the Presidency, Santorum has a big core of support, and he might surprise you. He’s one heck of a campaigner.

I second Rinker on not voting for Rudy.
