Huckabee asks if Mormons believe Jesus, devil are brothers

Written by Benaiah on December 12th, 2007

Well it looks like the attacks on Huckabee keep coming. Huckabee is reported as saying:

“Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”

We will have to wait until Sunday to read the article in the New York Times Magazine. As a side note I can not help but notice this AP story was released 5 days ahead of the actual article.

When it comes to faith I believe that none of us truly know what is in another man’s heart. Every Presidential hopeful should head this advice.

Michael, that’s good advice not just for Presidential hopefuls, but for everyone.

That said, what a person chooses to believe does speak to that person’s particular belief-value system, and in some cases to their morality and integrity. As a firm believer in pluralism, some of what I hear and I’ve read about Mormonism gives me pause…

How is it an attack on Huckabee? To quote what he said?

Well I think Huck is walking a dangerous tightrope. Huckabee is going out of his way to pick a fight with a key group of the Republican base in the Mountain West, Mormons. If he acts like a clown and bashes them, expect them to stay away from the polls.

Joe your right, my point really is that Huckabee is under the political microscope and should have known better. He got trapped and it backfired on him.

Even though what he said was true. that does not matter.

Why exactly does being true not matter? Everyone has the right to believe whatever they choose, but if you believe something that’s so far out of the mainstream, you have to live with the consequences of that.

I am appalled and saddened by what I see going on in the Republican race for President. Mitt Romney makes a speech to unite Americans of all faiths…Mike Huckabee uses his bully pulpit to smear Mormons and divide people of religion. Huckabee surges in the polls. Have we lost all sense of what is really important in this country? Do we want someone running for president, and possibly becoming our president, who plots and plans to divide our people even more than we are now divided? I am deeply worried about the direction we are going.
