I cannot stand Huckabee, but this might be over the top. The pardon issue is far more complex than can be dsecribed in a 30 second clip.

If a pattern of this behavior of letting people off because they find God exists, Huckabee is truly a theocrat and a naive one at that.

More dishonest crap from another GOP candidate in the race. Anyone that follows politics knows the back story on this case. This was a Clinton pardon!

This is the problem with politics. Real people with real lives dont tolerate this crap and then turn away from the process. The result? The most uninformed in our society choosing our leaders. Not good for the country.

Dave, you’re the one who’s being dishonest. First of all, Clinton didn’t pardon Dumond. Second, Clinton resigned as Arkansas governor in December 1992, and Huckabee didn’t become governor until July 1996. Third, Dumond wasn’t going to get out of jail until the parole board, with Huckabee’s encouragement, voted to let him out.

Mrs. Shields is factually correct. She has Huckabee to blame for the rape and murder of her daughter. Like it or not, Huck helped that happen.

Ryan, as for the complexity of the issue, let’s get real here. Huckabee used his clemency power more than twice as many times as the previous three governors of Arkansas combined (and one of them, Bill Clinton, was elected to five terms as governor of Arkansas). He used his clemency power more than the governors of the six bordering states combined, and those states have a combined population sixteen times that of Arkansas. He used his clemency power 1,033 times as governor, 12 times for murderers. There’s simply nothing left to nuance, nothing that a lengthy conversation with the candidate could explain. Huckabee is unforgivably soft on crime, and he’s got the blood of innocents on his hands.

My mistake, it was Jim Guy Tucker (Clinton’s stand-in) who made Dumond eligible for parole. Huck denied clemency requests several times for the guy. Does that sound like someone who is obsessed with paroling him? You should really read the whole story before proclaiming Huck has “blood on his hands”. I dont care for Huck, but I am disgusted with the ultrapartisans just telling outright mistruths to further their own ends. This is why people dont want to get involved in politics. Petty people scrambling for power only at the expense of the whole truth. I dont consider these people any different that the ultra-libs lying to America. It is our country and our future that suffers.

Alan, thanks for clarifying Huckabee’s pattern of being happy with pardons.

There is a letter in hand Huckabee wrote to the “killer” telling him he wanted him pardoned to renew his life again….he renewed it again, by killing another!
Signed…A Southern Baptist from Arkansas voting for Fred Thompson

    The whole truth, huh?

Here is the whole truth. Huckabee’s claims he didn’t do this and he didn’t do that are just another pattern of his:

passing the buck and refusing to take responsibility for his actions.

The WHOLE truth is Huckabee WAS Governor while Dumond was still in prison. As Governor, he COULD have worked to keep Dumond behind bars and had good chances for success.
There is the whole truth. To me, it’s not about what he did, it’s about what he COULD have done.

Sleep well knowing this guy wants to be your president…

Not that the truth matters to you guys, but for the last time…..Jim Guy Tucker granted clemency to Dumond in the form of a commuted sentence while acting as governor for Bill Clinton (and the matter was discussed with Clinton, who approved). This made Dumond immediately eligible for parole. Huck came into office 4 years later and denied further clemency requests several times. The parole board (all clinton/tucker people) voted to release him. And that letter, weve all seen it. Of course the media leaves out the part that the point of the letter was to deny yet another clemency request. Sounds like a guy who was obsessed with letting this guy out. So sad that conservatives dont care about actual facts anymore either.

Dave, did you read the letter Huck wrote to Dumond himself? Do you seriously think Huck had nothing at all to do with Dumond getting out?

The Clinton/Tucker parole board voted AGAINST releasing Dumond BEFORE Huckabee came into office. Gee, I wonder what changed after that?

Alan, do not try to reason with Dave. I have tried to talk to a number of the Huckabee people about his tax and spend ways and it was like they do not understand basic concepts of reason.

Nice Ryan. Actually, I am pretty disgusted by Huck (except for the fairtax which is great), but dont think there is a place for mistruths on our side.
And yes, I detest basic concepts of reason too. And puppies.

ChemistryDave, I can’t believe that the same person who supports the Fair Tax hates puppies. Am I missing something here?
