Sen. DeMint on ‘Stimulus’ Plan
Written by YellowJacket on January 28th, 2008You can always count on politicians in Washington to be generous with your hard earned tax dollars. The most recent example of this comes as the President and Congress are preparing to pass an economic stimulus package in response to signs of a slowing economy. This comes despite the fact that many indicators still point to continued economic growth, albeit at a slower rate.
Amid the buzz of various proposals one plan is becoming increasingly likely. The President and congressional leaders have proposed writing taxpayer funded government checks for between $300 and $1,200 per person. These rebates will be one-time handouts designed to spur consumer spending.
But an economy that is facing slumping home sales, a credit crisis and nose-diving markets will not be rescued by temporary cash handouts. History has taught us this lesson repeatedly.
Washington sent Americans $300 tax rebate checks in 2001, but the handouts did little for real economic growth and Congress went back to the drawing board. Instead of making the same mistake again, President Bush and Republicans pushed for pro-growth tax cuts in 2003.
You should read the rest of the article. Sen. Jim DeMint proves, once again, why he is one of the best Senators in Washington. He has done a great deal in his quest to serve as a taxpayers’ watchdog.

Jim DeMint also thinks that single mothers shouldn’t be allowed to teach in public schools. How can you take anything this clown says seriously?

Uh, source?

Notice that, instead of retracting, the best he could muster is that he was sorry that the issue distracted from discussion of other matters.
If a Democrat says or does something stupid, you people always bring it up in unrelated circumstances. So, fair is fair, and this remark is about as stupid and hateful as they come.

Definitely dumb. Reminds me of Sen. Coburn’s warning that letting school girls go to the bathroom together encourages lesbianism. Hopefully, our new generation of leaders will be conservative, intelligent, and less warped than the current ones.

LOL. I remember that. That was hilarious and apparently Neal went to that high school.

I looked at your source.
I disagree with DeMint here.

Publius, so what? This is a non-issue. It’s his own personal opinion and he doesn’t go around campaigning on it, pushing for it, or introducing legislation to enforce it. Find me a human being on Earth that doesn’t have at least one radical view on something. I am quite certain you have a few yourself.
DeMint is one of the best damn Senators we have in Washington. He, Coburn, McCain, and Feingold have consistently fought against wasteful use of our tax dollars and our rising national debt that is bankrupting our country.

Bush, I once loved you. Where has this been all these years: “We have other work to do on taxes. Unless the Congress acts, most of the tax relief we have delivered over the past 7 years will be taken away. Some in Washington argue that letting tax relief expire is not a tax increase. Try explaining that to 116 million American taxpayers who would see their taxes rise by an average of $1,800. Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders.”

I do not care for DeMint’s social policy, but I do think he is right on many fiscal issues including this cash giveaway that will only create more debt and feed the spending addiction of the American people.
Cut spending… cut taxes… encourage savings.

The stimulus is continually looking to be more and more of a scam. I was reading how some Senate Democrats were hoping to load up the bill with extra payments for seniors or something…..hopefully they do, which will hopefully spark a Bush Veto. I hope this bill will die like some of those other “bi-partisan” scams such as the immigration bill.
Just when the deficit was going down this dumb idea comes along. Interesting article today from the Wall Street Journal about how capital gains tax cuts pay for themselves, that would be an idea!

Ben, I agree. I too am hoping that the Senate Dems screw the bill and Bush vetoes it. It is a reckless legislation.

Bush veto? Ha!
