Drudge Owes Harry and His Unit an Apology

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Having broken the story himself, Drudge lay back and, as usual, left it to the mainstream media to report the details via links on his site to Telegraph.co.uk and other news organisations.

Angry internet users have changed an entry on online encyclopaedia Wikipedia to describe the Drudge Report as an “irresponsible and ill-advised ‘news’ website that has seen fit to put the lives of many soldiers at risk by publishing reports of Prince Harry’s deployment in Afghanistan”.

Not one to reveal much about himself or the way he works, Drudge maintained a stony silence about this, one of his most explosive scoops.

Telegraph

I am an avid reader of the Drudge Report, but I found this to be really distasteful on Drudge’s behalf and disrespectful to Prince Harry’s military service. By breaking the news on Harry’s service in Iraq he put the Prince and the lives of everyone in his unit in danger. I’m all for freedom of the press, but with all freedom comes a responsibility and he crossed the line.

Virginia Legislature Votes to Cut Off Planned Parenthood Funding

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The Virginia Senate voted Wednesday to cut off state funding to Planned Parenthood of Virginia because it offers abortions, an action that could endanger hundreds of thousands of dollars in state aid for women’s health-care programs.

The decision, a major setback for the Senate’s new Democratic majority, marks the first time in more than a decade that the Senate has decided against giving state aid to the organization because of its abortion-related activities.

The Washington Post

The interesting thing about this is that the Republicans had tried in the past to cut funding to Planned Parenthood when they were in the Senate majority, but the pro baby murdering Republicans stood in the way of it. Now that they are in the minority every Senate Republican voted for the bill and one Democrat crossed over to tie the vote leaving the tie breaking vote to the Republican Lieutenant Governor.

No tax dollars should go to fund abortions. That is simply immoral and that decision now lies in Tim Kaine’s hands. I don’t think it will be an easy decision for him because while he is a Democrat and was certainly elected with the votes of the pro-murder crowd, Virginia is still a socially conservative state. What’s a governor to do?

Myron Cope Has Passed

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

In more sad news this week, Steelers icon Myron Cope passed away.  I heard it on the news this morning on my way coming into work.  Having lived in Pittsburgh for many years I am very disheartened by this, but not surprised.  His health hadn’t been very well lately, but it’s still shocking all the same.

Begich to Challenge Stevens

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

The most corrupt and longest-serving (what a coincidence!) Republican in the Senate, Ted Stevens, is in for the race of his life.  Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich has formed an exploratory committee to take a look at a bid, and forming it this late strongly suggests that he simply wants two days of free media rather than one.  He enters the race, according to one poll, with a lead on Stevens, who has all but been accused of accepting bribes by Veco Chairman Bill Allen, for whom he obtained earmkars.

Stevens is as corrupt as could be and his whole state knows it.  It doesn’t exactly help that he’s campaigning, as always, on his ability to waste taxpayer dollars on special projects in his state.  He has never been a friend of conservatives because of his pork barrel spending, and Democrats don’t like him thanks to their partisanship.  He has always won by carrying the “I want free stuff” milddle.  Well, that middle is likely to respond to the charges of corruption.

I don’t like advocating the defeat of Republicans in general elections, but if we don’t replace this guy in the primary, we deserve to lose the general.  Ultimately his defeat, either in the primary or in the general, would be best for the Party because Stevens is the poster boy for what’s wrong with the GOP.  He’s corrupt.  He’s a porker.  He’s a social liberal.  He may even be indicted soon.

Come on, Alaska, you replaced the guy who gave his daughter a Senate seat.  Can you come through again?

Cunningham In His Own Words

This is a better clip fleshing out what Cunningham said, skip ahead slightly to the interview (around 1:22) between the anchors and Cunningham. He is very right in his insistence on standing behind what he said.

McCain Apologizes for Cunningham Remarks

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I personally have no issue with anything Cunningham said. As far as I am concerned it’s all pretty accurate. However, McCain has the right to run his campaign how he sees fit and if he wants to do so without the rhetoric that’s his privilege. I think he showed a great deal of character apologizing publicly for what he felt were disparaging remarks by Cunningham. You would never see Clinton or Obama apologize for Moveon.org.

Apparently, Cunningham is angry about this now and said he is going to support Hillary.

David Cappiello in CT-5

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

David Cappiello is a Republican State Senator in Connecticut who is looking to regain the seat held by Nancy Johnson until her defeat during the Democrat sweep in 2006. I really like this guy. He is a strong fiscal conservative which we direly need in Washington. The video below is from about a year ago when Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell proposed her very liberal budget last year with a 10% increase in the income tax for education (as if they need more money), despite the fact that the state already had over a billion dollars in its rainy day fund. Cappiello pretty much took her to task in this interview over her entire irresponsible budget. Eventually the budget was passed by the heavily Democrat controlled legislature without the income increase.

The first two minutes of the video is Rell BSing everyone as to why they need to raise taxes. After that the interview begins.

Dems Want Probe of McCain’s Funding

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — The Democratic Party filed a complaint against Sen. John McCain on Monday, calling on regulators to investigate the Republican presidential candidate’s decision to withdraw from the primary’s public financing system.

In a letter to the Federal Election Commission, the Democratic National Committee contends McCain cannot reject the public funds — and accompanying spending limits — because he faces questions over a loan he obtained last year.

McCain notified the commission early this month that he did not intend to accept $5.8 million in federal funds for the primary. That would free him from spending caps that would restrict his ability to campaign between now and the GOP national convention in September.

FEC Chairman David Mason, in a letter to McCain last week, said the senator must explain a $4 million line of credit he secured last year and get approval from four of the commission’s six members before withdrawing from the public financing system.

USA Today

The controversy here is that McCain’s campaign took a questionable loan out that the Democrats say fall under the umbrella of the public financing rules.  McCain could easily clear this up by getting a ruling from the FEC to allow him to withdraw from using public funds, but there are four vacancies on the FEC due to the Democrats holding up Bush’s nominations so there can be no quorum called.

It’s rather ironic that the man who authored McCain-Feingold is now getting smacked by similar campaign finance rules.

Illegal Alien Responsible for Killing 4 Children in MN School Bus Crash

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008
A woman originally identified as Morales was charged in connection with the crash that killed four children on Tuesday near Cottonwood. Federal investigators said Friday they believe the woman is using an alias and is in the United States illegally.A birth certificate and Social Security card are among documents that can be used to get a Minnesota ID, which the woman was carrying when her van collided with the school bus.

Police shouldn’t be surprised that — if they discover the ID is false — there could be multiple “Alianiss Nunez Morales” around the country, said Uriel Perez Espinoza, vice president of UNITE HERE Local 17, which organizes restaurant and hotel workers.

“Someone may have sold an ID to her [Morales] and then to other people in other states,” Espinoza said. “There are guys who are exploiting people. This is what happens when you live in the shadows.”

Feds ‘ignored the problem’

Morales’ identification indicated she was from Puerto Rico, which is one of the hot spots for bogus identification in Minnesota, said law enforcement officials. They say they are increasingly frustrated about the fake driver’s licenses, green cards and other IDs showing up across the state.

“It’s pretty clear the federal government has ignored the problem so long that it’s become institutionalized,” said Michael Campion, Minnesota public safety commissioner.

Star Tribune

There are more and more stories hitting the news about Americans being killed in automobile accidents by illegal aliens. I wonder how many more fatal accidents are required before Bush starts to care.

Renzi Indicted on Money Laundering, Extortion

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Republican Rep. Rick Renzi was indicted Friday on charges of extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other matters in an Arizona land swap scam that allegedly helped him collect hundreds of thousands of dollars in payoffs.

A 26-page federal indictment unsealed in Arizona accuses Renzi and two former business partners of conspiring to promote the sale of land that buyers could swap for property owned by the federal government. The sale netted one of Renzi’s former partners $4.5 million.

Renzi is a three-term member of the House. He announced in August that he would not seek re-election.

The Charlotte Observer

Okay, do we have any other outstanding corruption cases going on within the House GOP that we need to be aware going into election season?  Jeez, what is with these guys?

If the ballot was McCain and Clinton, 46 percent said they would choose McCain and 46 percent for Clinton. If the race was between McCain and Obama, the polls said McCain would have 44 percent and Obama 43 percent.

Shadegg Changes Mind, Will Run for Reelection!

Thursday, February 21st, 2008
At the end of the day, there are two things that are important to me: My family and the fight for freedom. I had consulted with my family and reached the decision that I would fight for freedom from somewhere else. And there has been a reaction to that decision. The overwhelming reaction has been that people would like me to keep up the fight for freedom inside the U.S. House.I am overwhelmed and humbled by the reaction of my colleagues. When the conservative movement asks you to stick around, that’s a pretty tough request to turn down.”

The Times Story May Have Backfired

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Truth or smear, we don’t really know.  Personally, I think the alleged affair McCain is accused of in the New York Times is garbage.  Nonetheless, it might actually help him.  Apparently he has been able to use this to his advantage as a fund raising mechanism and it’s working.

Continuing in their effort to pit themselves as victims of a liberal media assault, John McCain’s campaign sent out a fundraising solicitation this afternoon based on the New York Times story.

“With John McCain leading a number of general-election polls against Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, The New York Times knew the time to attack was now, and they did,” writes campaign manager Rick Davis in the email.

Stoking conservative mistrust of the Times, Davis alleges that the paper “gave MoveOn.org a sweetheart deal to run advertisements attacking General Petraeus.” He also quotes some of the conservative pundits who are rallying around McCain.

The Politico

And apparently several left wing bloggers have come out chastising the Times for their actions.

Greg Sargent, at TPM’s Horse’s Mouth, writes that the Times doesn’t “have the goods” and “shouldn’t have gone there.” Matthew Yglesias accuses the Times of “shameful” dealings in “innuendo,” though he’s interested in the sex-free, lobbying aspects of the story. Big Tent Democrat at TalkLeft calls it “troubling” and bad for Democrats. Kevin Drum writes of the Times that “there’s no way that they ‘nailed’ anything.”

Other blogs — like MyDD, despite some passing glee; DailyKos; and, mostly, OpenLeft — are essentially ignoring the story. Carpetbagger Report seems almost alone in obsessing about it.

It’s Good To Be Back….

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I want to thank everyone who supported my short-lived campaign for the U.S. Congress!

Now, more than ever, we need to recruit and promote true conservatives for office. I pledge to do just that. I also want to thank those who have been at the forefront in my absence. Thank you all for what you have been doing and continue to do for our cause.

I am back in full force as we continue to work to SAVE THE GOP!

The Highly Accomplished Barack Obama

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Right now it looks like John McCain will lose in November.  Fortunately, there’s an actual campaign before then and the American people will have a greater opportunity to examine the candidates’ records and accomplishments.  If this Obama supporter is any indication, that will be a short study when it comes to Obama.  We all know that the GOP has its problems, but if we can’t beat this guy, it’s worse than I realized.

I Believe in Miracles

Sometimes it seems that our political situation in the United States is so completely out of control that we just might need a miracle to get our country back on track. I believe in miracles. I will be asking the people in Gold Country- and the rest of California’s 4th Congressional District - for their vote in the June 3, 2008 Republican primaries. Open discussions regarding my candidacy are taking place at places like myspace, youtube and livejournal.
I invite you to join in the free discussions, I’m listening.Best wishes,

Theodore Terbolizard

I really hope Turbo Lizard wins just because his name is awesome.

Erick Erickson at RedState has been pushing Eric Egland for this race.

McCain Wins Wisconsin Primary

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Fox News just declared him the winner.  He was widely expected to win the state so there is no shock here.
