Arlen Specter Wants to Know Why NFL Destroyed Patriots Tapes
Written by Sam on February 1st, 2008With the Super Bowl fast approaching, a senior Republican senator says he wants the NFL to explain why it destroyed evidence of the New England Patriots cheating scandal.“I am very concerned about the underlying facts on the taping, the reasons for the judgment on the limited penalties and, most of all, on the inexplicable destruction of the tapes,” said Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., in a Thursday letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
I am very concerned about the fact that Arlen Specter thinks this is any of his or the government’s business.

It is not the government’s business, but when the NFL has an anti-trust exemption, they probably should expect such things to occur especially when people like Specter are idle.

“There are some things that are none of my business.”
Something that every politician should understand, and that few politicians do understand.

let’s spend a few million dollars and investigate it, bring back Ken Starr

Congress does have a right to question NFL operations because of the anti-trust exemption and because of the large amounts of government money and tax breaks that go into stadium construction.
But, it shouldn’t. It’s not the proper role of government.
This is why I’m voting for Ron Paul on Tuesday in the New York primary.

it accuatly is goverment buissiness because the NFL plays in goverment subsidized stadiums and broadcasts itself over the airwaves.

Guys there is another angle to this that I think you are missing and that is fraud. Gambling is legal in certain parts of this country. If one team cheated then many gamblers could have been defrauded making this a legal matter that government should investigate.
Do I think Sen. Spector is grandastanding? Wholeheartedly.
