McCain in 2001

Written by YellowJacket on February 1st, 2008

This article came out early last year, but it bears reminding: Democrats Say McCain Nearly Abandoned GOP.

I’m not quoting any of it; read any or all of it as you please.

It does come down to a he said/she said situation, but the fact that there is enough substance to merit even writing an article like this about McCain in a respected newspaper is damning. This is the guy who is likely to be the Republican nominee for President? Spare me.

Pathetic….so sad to see the GOP committing suicide with the McCain candidacy.

I totally agree. After the hard right targeted McCain’s family members in the 2000 primary with horrid slurs and accusations, how dare he then consider leaving the party that was then run by those same people! Then McCain has the NERVE to bury the hatchet and campaign for all over the country for Bush in 2004 and dozens of GOP candidates in 2006…OUTRAGEOUS!!! Being both HUMAN and FORGIVING!?! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!!!!

Ralph Reed was behind tergeting McCain’s family members, who is a slimeball who nobody on this blog likes.

Considering the comments about McCain’s family in 2000, I would not be shocked if he thought about sitting as an Independent, but McCain went out there and campaigned for countless Republicans since those sad times.

On another note, I am enjoying the attacks being launched against McCain by Santorum, a candidate who begged McCain to help him in 2006. Such hypocrisy reigns in the conservative ranks.

Santorum isn’t one to talk. He had plenty of his own issues that aided in his defeat in 2006.

Sam… that is what I was getting at about the McCain / Santorum spat.

Hmm. . .I wonder why the democrats are spreading this story, and at this time, too. How nakedly obvious could their motives be. . .come on. . .

Democrats aren’t “spreading this story, and at this time, too.” This article is from nearly a year ago. Matt Drudge highlighted it on DrudgeReport this week, giving a lot of conservative blogs a reminder. Thus, I’ve seen several other conservative blogs run (or re-run) this story to remind everyone exactly what we are dealing with considering McCain.

You’re missing my point entirely. Sure there are interested parties on the right who want to see McCain go down in flames. What’s more interesting to me is Daschle’s involvement in anything.

You have to remember–McCain was considered a R.I.N.O.

It is understandable if you want to leave the party after they harass you. Look at Lieberman on the Democrats side.

But McCain is a fiscal conservative, Lieberman is a social liberal. In both cases, they are exemplary examples of what one would seek in a ‘conservative’ Republican or ‘Liberal’ Democrat. The problem is that they tend to disagree with their parties on certain issues at key times.

Many of you know that I am not a conservative. running this story now only sparks interest into why he would consider leaving. It may turn Republicans away from McCain, but it attracts independents to him like flies!
