I’m sure many of you by now have seen the marine throwing the puppy over the cliff. This is a perfect example of how easy it is to cause bedlam and get people worked up over something trivial. This is the same kind of hysteria that took over with “the dingo ate my baby” affair in Australia some years back.

That entire video is quite possibly a hoax. Nobody has verified that is actually a real dog they are throwing or just a joke that they never thought would get all of this attention. They haven’t positively identified the marine in the video, but the family of the guy who it is suspected to be is getting hate mail and death threats over this. People are leaving comments all over YouTube and other message forums degrading the U.S. Marine Corps and crying about how this is what our military is coming to, as if this is somehow representative of every American marine around the world. ABC News has even interviewed Stamford psychologists on this incident who are, of course, concerned that this is the result of the stress and hardship put on these men because of the Iraq War.

Real or not, the guys who filmed are obviously going to get into at least a minimal degree of trouble with the their superior officers for causing this circus and giving a black eye to the military. It’s just amazing to me how people are so quick to believe everything they see and hear and it makes Obamamania all the less surprising.

No, that’s not necessarily what time this was called, but it’s the time on the clock now as I write this, as I’m up early studying for a midterm and decided to check out the latest results in Texas.
