Aging Hippy Liberal Claims Responsibility for NYC Recruiting Station Explosion

Thursday, March 6th, 2008
Capitol Hill offices received letters Thursday containing a photo of the Times Square military recruiting office before it was bombed and including the claim “We Did It.”The manila envelopes contained a photo of a man standing in front of the recruiting station before it was bombed. The photo was the kind commonly sent as a holiday greeting card, according to a Democratic aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter is under investigation.

The message on the card: “Happy New Year, We Did It.”

The envelope also contained a packet of approximately 10 sheets of paper that seemed to be a political manifesto railing against the Iraq war and a booklet. The aide didn’t know what the booklet was. A second aide, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said similar letters arrived in as many as 10 offices.

Capitol Police, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service were investigating. In an e-mail to lawmakers, Capitol Police said the envelopes went through the standard security process. That process, which involves radiating incoming mail, can easily take a week or more, making it likely the letters were mailed well ahead of the bombing.

The small bomb caused minor damage to the New York military recruiting station before dawn Thursday and police were searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance video pedaling away.

Each envelope was stamped with two $1 stamps and contained a while label with a return address, which the police did not identify in the e-mail. Police said the letters were safe and did not contain threats to lawmakers.

The man in the photo was thin, white with graying hair, wearing a striped flannel shirt and jeans, the Democratic aide said. A law enforcement official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing, confirmed some of the contents of the letters as described by the aide.

McCain Tied with Obama, Well Ahead of Hillary in Washington!

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Washington state voters finds John McCain and Barack Obama essentially tied in a general election match-up. McCain leads Obama 45% to 44%.

McCain tops Hillary Clinton 48% to 40% in the Evergreen State.

McCain also has a modest lead over both Democrats nationally in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

Wow! In heavily blue Washington. Let’s keep that momentum going!  If he is tying Obama and trouncing Hillary this could be one hell of an election.  This could also help put Dino Rossi over the top in his bid to win back the Governor’s mansion that was taken from him in 2004 in the REAL stolen election that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton never protested.

Ron Paul Dropping Out of Presidential Race

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

I guess he has decided to drop out after all.

BC News’ Z. Byron Wolf Reports: Texas Congressman Ron Paul will become the final Republican candidate for President who is not John McCain to drop out of the Presidential race tonight, ABC News has learned.

It was a spirited run for Paul, whose follower’s called their support for him a “revolution” of non-interventionism and small government.

In a web video to be posted on Paul’s website he will tell supporters he is winding down his campaign, which had already taken a back seat in recent weeks to his simultaneous bid for reelection to his Congressional seat.

“The message of freedom is popular,” he wrote on Tuesday night. “And I will continue to trumpet it in Congress and across America as I fight on behalf of the conservative, common sense values which made our country so great. In conclusion, I would like to offer my thanks and gratitude to all of the wonderful people who supported me in this campaign. I look forward to representing all of the good people of the 14th District of Texas in Congress in the years to come.”

Ron Paul Lives to Fight Another Day

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Rep. Ron Paul, the 72-year-old libertarian-like, 10-term Texas congressman who’s also running for the Republican presidential nomination, easily won his 14th District primary Tuesday and is set for easy re-election in November.

With about half the precincts counted (what’s the rush — it’s Texas) Paul was thumping Friendswood City Councilman Chris Peden by two-to-one.

Now, Paul can set his sights on this other old-timer, 71-year-old Sen. John McCain, who claims to have won more than the 1,191 GOP delegates for the Republican presidential nomination this September at the National Convention in St. Paul (no relation to the congressman).

The LA Times

Ron Paul easily won reelection in the Republican Primary this past Tuesday, which I never doubted. The neocons thought they could take him down, but they clearly don’t know the people of the 14th Congressional District. Thankfully we can look forward to a few more years of him standing up and protecting our Constitution, one of the very few that do.

I do believe it is time for him to leave the Presidential race, though.  I would rather him save up all of that money he raised and use it for a gubernatorial run in 2010.
