After a super-majority of Ron Paul supporters captured control of the Republican state convention Saturday, state party officials abruptly canceled the event without electing delegates to the national convention.Early in the day, state delegates supporting Paul’s continued pursuit of the Republican nomination voted through a rules change that forced the state party to abandon its preset ballot of potential national convention delegates and open up the race to the rest of the state delegates.
I like Ron Paul very much. I think he is one of the best Congressmen in Washington in regards to governing by our Constitution. However, these shenanigans by those who continue to support his failed Presidential bid need to stop.
I think Ron Paul would have made an excellent President and his candidacy was quite impressive, especially the amount of money he managed to raise, but it’s long past time to move on. There is absolutely no chance whatsoever that he will be able to get the Republican nomination and people like the ones who crashed this state convention are only attaching a negative connotation to the Congressman and making themselves look like a bunch of asses.
Republicans should sit back and enjoy the Democrats’ current chaos rather than drumming up their own.

I don’t think Paul has a chance in hell at this point, but the actions of the state GOP on Nevada are par for the course when it comes to the the party listening to the will of the people. If the citizens of Nevada want to vote for Ron Paul, let them.
This is why so many conservatives have come to see the GOP as the real obstacle to change in this country.
Its not (only) the GOP that is an obstacle to change, its our entire political system. The Dems are totally useless and downright dangerous, and GOP lawmakers appear to be a mixture of “my way or the highway” psychos and lifers with no interest in fixing anything. Until our population is taxed into poverty, viciously attacked by our enemy (again) or attacked by a giant swarm of killer bees, nothing will be done because the average american is a useless pile of crap.
Dave, no need to descend into Publius territory by calling fellow Americans useless piles of crap.
The majority of the voting public may not be as politically informed or motivated as those of us who are, but seeing as how much crap we have to sift through I can understand how some people can be apathetic.
Elections are not won and minds are not changed if you resort to rhetoric against the very people we are trying to convince.
Hyperbole Langley. Lighten up. Dont ever take anything seriously that references killer bees.
I actually dont blame them for being apathetic, after all we decide the leader of the free world based on 5 second soundbites. Why does our population stand for that? Is this the same spirit that fought for independence from england? Hardly. They sit back and wait for the government to throw them a bone.
I don’t disagree with you about the problem with the public being willing to put up with soundbite politics. I was frustrated, as were many others, during the primary season at the wrong perception of Sen. Fred Thompson that he “didn’t care enough” about the Presidency because he wasn’t a soundbite kind of guy. Looking back on his campaign there is plenty of blame to go around, including those around him and ultimately himself for decisions made, but the campaign season did tick me off on a regular basis. To me it was clear as day who was talking about issues and saying all the right things for the right reason, but most Americans and Republicans tuned him out because he wasn’t flashy like Mitt Romney or “maverick” enough like John McCain, or slick enough as Mike Huckabee.
So I know what you are saying, and I understand that it was hyperbole, but hyperbole doesn’t always serve your best interests. This is a political forum for debate, and I don’t expect it to be dry without some humor, but throwing a line out about most Americans being “useless” without some kind of explanation of frustration as I just showed gets you and your argument nowhere.
Its not that the public “puts up” with soundbite politics, it is that they dont demand anything else. Elections are the public interviewing people for a job in their “company”. Place the blame where is deserves to be, on the people.
And to be honest, Thompson didnt seem to care enough. And people that compared him to Washington not wanting the presidency…….well, lets just call that hyperbole.
Ultimately of course it is the people who are to blame, but a little leadership goes a long way in motivating the citizens of a country to demand more from their leadership.
The same people that sat by as Bill Clinton became president also rallied around Newt once the ‘94 revolution came into full swing. Given the right leadership the people can become extremely involved in their government.
Who do they trust right now? Not the Democrats and certainly not the GOP after these last eight years. The waters are a little murky at the moment.
Bob Barr is looking like a good alternative
Bob Barr? Seriously? He left the ranch back in 2002 when he chose to run against John Linder in the GA 7th, when the Democrats in Georgia redrew their congressional districts. Guaranteeing we would lose an incumbent Republican.
The biggest irony of his now Libertarian Presidential bid is that he been the strongest supporter of the war on drugs, first at the Dept. of Justice and then in Congress.
I like Bob Barr, but he has a snow balls chance in hell of winning with the Libertarian Party.
“one of the best Congressmen in Washington in regards to governing by our Constitution” - I am not really sure what that is supposed to means.
However, he is clearly one of the worst Congressmen it terms of progressing a Conservative/Liberty agenda - i.e. he has not accomplished anything (but opposes common sense measures like free trade agreements - supposedly because of his superior Constitutional views).
And he is one of the best in reqards to making Republicans and Conservatives look like a bunch of koo-koos (crazies) by identifying himself as such.
