Written by Sam on May 30th, 2008Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is working with American Solutions for Winning the Future to rally up Americans across the country to start pushing Congress to end the bans on domestic drilling in places like ANWR and offshore areas in both bordering oceans.
There is an online petition you can sign to add your voice to the 154,000 people that have already signed in support of the drilling. I have been told before that Congress doesn’t care about online petitions and that they don’t do any good, but I don’t know if that’s true or not. Maybe someone who has recently or currently works on Capitol Hill can comment on that.
The below video features Gingrich talking about the drive. He also reminds everyone to call your representative and Senators and tell them to vote no on the Lieberman-Warner Climate Bill. It is important that bill not pass! Please do this!

Never really liked Newt Gingrich, but when he is right he is right!
This movement is at least 10 years late, but the longer we wait the worse it will be!

I already signed it. It’s a short, to-the-point petition that should be common sense to every American and our representatives in our houses of Congress.

As a Democrat, I would support domestic drilling as long as there were policies in place guaranteeing that some of the benefits would accrue to American consumers rather than as profits to the oil companies.
When firms have pricing power, the canonical supply and demand model doesn’t apply since firms can set price and output to maximize producer surplus rather than being governed by a market equilibrium. Especially with access to export markets, I could see nearly all the net benefits from drilling appropriated as profits to oil companies rather than in the form of price cuts to consumers.

This is, above all else, a national security issue. I do not like paying $4.00 a gallon for gas but what I really hate is being dependant on small time tyrants and billionaire sheiks whose hatred of Israel is allowed to continue because we need their oil. If we were not dependant on OPEC nations for oil we could leave Israel alone and allow them to solve their problems the way they see fit. I am a life long Reagan conservative and I see my party moving away from me every day. Drill Here, Drill Now!!!

A shift in policy towards domestic drilling would knock down some of the speculation in the oil markets. Right now, NYMEX traders know that the US is in a deeply compromised position, and know DC is full of spineless fools. Speculation comprises roughly $50 of current sweet crude prices.

What the American Solutions Program needs right now is someone like Newt G. with credibility, to “get on the stump” all over America, and “preach” our message! attract t.v. and media coverage like Al Gore did with his climate control message. however, we need a “heavy-weight” to promote and preach effectively. We must have a “leader” out there who must save this country! Please make yourself known! we need you “now”!

I believe that a grassroots movement needs to overtake the Republican National Convention and demand that the platform and national campaigns address key issues that are threatening the survival of the Republic. (Don’t you think that the Republican Party would be an appropriate entity to save the integrity and meaning of the Republic?)
