Revisiting the Russia/Iraqi WMD story…

Written by Jack Burden on August 13th, 2008

As Russian troops march through Georgia, does anyone recall this set of stories from a couple years ago:

Russia tied to Iraq’s missing arms

Photos point to removal of weapons

Pentagon ousts official who tied Russia, Iraq arms

Ex official: Russia moved Iraq’s WMD

And yet none of this was ever reported on by mainstream media sources. Considering the source on all this was a Deputy Undersecretary of Defense who was responsible for overseeing the search for WMDs, I think this trumps the John Edwards situation as an example of the media blowing a major story…

If these stories are true, then why is the White House not mentioning them every time there’s a camera on them? Even if there was some sort of massive media conspiracy to never report anything that makes the war look like it is going well or it is justified, the media certainly gives the President plenty of airtime and he could bring this up. I’m skeptical of the validity of these claims.

Not if he felt it was too important to make an enemy of Russia.
