President Bush: You Can Win This Thing NOW
Written by Jack Burden on August 29th, 2008There has been talk the GOP could delay the convention because of the Hurricane poised to hit New Orleans. The party shouldn’t do it. This is what they should do instead:
President Bush, cancel your speech at the convention Monday night. Cheney should too. Instead, go down to New Orleans. Go down there and personally run the FEMA operation.
From New Orleans, appear on the big screen for some brief comments at the convention.

Why would they need to postpone a convention in Minnesota because of a hurricane in Louisiana?

Because it doesn’t look good to be celebrating while a hurricane is destroying a major city for the second time in three years.

Terrible idea. That just brings back more memories of Katrina. We should not endorse the concept that washington has to rescue people from their homes when a hurricane is coming. Plus, the hurricane is going to most likely make landfall far west of new orleans.

I don’t know what you guys think of the religious right, but Focus on the Family had been asking evangelicals to pray for rain last night to show God’s disapproval for the Democratic ticket. And not so much as a sprinkle.
And now McCain is having to consider delaying his official nomination because a hurricane’s a-comin.
Now that’s just funny.

What Bush should say (but won’t) is that the difference this time around is that Louisiana has a competent governor who is taking proactive steps to mitigate any damage from Gustav.
