Gov. Palin’s Daughter Pregnant

Written by YellowJacket on September 1st, 2008

Wow, this will certainly put a new spin on the race:

ST. PAUL (CNN) - Bristol Palin, the 17 year old daughter of Sarah Palin, is pregnant and will keep the baby and marry the father, a senior McCain aide confirmed to CNN Monday.

McCain was aware of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy before he chose her mother for his running mate, the aide said.

“Senator McCain knew this and felt in no way did it disqualify her from being vice president,” said the aide. “Families have difficulties sometimes and lucky for her she has a supportive family.”

Bristol Palin, a senior in high school, is about 5 months along, in her second trimester, according to the aide.

I don’t think this story will do much harm to the Republican ticket, despite the hopes and dreams of the loony Left.  On one hand, yes there was obviously a mistake made here, and a 17 year-old pregnancy is certainly not the most desireable situation for most Americans.  On the other hand, there is the pro-life issue of the younger Palin following in her mother’s footseps (in regards to Trig, who Gov. Palin knew would have Down’s Syndrome) in keeping the child and even going further in committing to marry the father.

I see this as a personal issue, and as a showing of a young woman screwing up and taking responsibility.

Beyond all of that, I don’t think we need to discuss the issue any further.  You can bet the DNC and the MSM will try to keep it alive though.

I doubt it will matter unless the media/Obama push it. If they push it, this screams backfire.

Wow. If nothing else, abortion is now front and center in this campaign.

Just compare the Palins’ actions to Obama’s vote on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act and Obama’s statement that if his daughters became pregnant he wouldn’t want to see them “punished” by having a baby.

    Two points:

1.) It is amazing to see how plugged into the blogosphere the McCain campaign is.

2.) I think the main meme coming from the left will be that the social conservatives will now abandon Palin, but that is merely projection.

Hey, there’s a shocker, Sarah Palin is the mother in a typical American family. Even Obama said this needs to be left alone. There’s an invisible line here. I almost fell of my chair when NBC Bos 7 came out with the “sensational news coverage” headline. ABC and CBS are sounding better and better. Where you going Jay?

Of all the republicans - Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty - is this the best out there???

Fine you want a woman, there are other women republicans who are better ready for this job.

Insulting the intelligence of women by thinking they will just blindly vote for the ticket because any woman is on it is pretty sad thing to do.

If this is the first most important test of a presidential candidate -John McCain failed.

I’m sorry, I think I’m loosing the respect I once had for John McCain.

Uh, “KH,” yes, Gov. Palin is more conservative and a better candidate than “Flip-Flopper” Gov. Romney, conservative-enough-for-Minnesota Gov. Pawlenty (I do like him, though), and “I would ban smoking nationwide, I love government power” Huckabee.

Give me a break. Gov. Palin is a great conservative candidate, and not because she’s a woman.

Just curious, what “other woman republicans” would you suggest? Olympia Snowe, or her other liberal counterpart, Susan Collins? Establishment RINOs like Kay Bailey Hutchison or (gag) Elizabeth Dole?

You are probably “losing respect” for McCain because you like his liberal tendencies, and can’t stand the fact that he chose a statesman (stateswoman?) who truly believes in public service and limited government, rather than one who seeks power and government expansion.

Well said, the only people who think this is “pick a woman, any woman” type of decision are those to whom Sarah Palin is a total unknown. Sarah Palin is more qualified for this position than any other high profile woman in the GOP. As for Huckabee, Romney or Pawlenty they aren’t very conservative at all. At least Pawlenty is a straight shooter, but I can’t say I agree with him ideologically.

I agree Mike (on Pawlenty), which is why I clarified my statement about him with the fact that I can’t help but like the guy.

I felt the same way about Mayor Giuliani during the primaries (by the way, anybody want to criticize Palin compared to “just a Mayor” Giuliani, who had never been a legislator or governor? Anyone?).

Though I knew that Giuliani is not a through-and-through conservative, I did just like the guy for being somewhat straightforward and just a charismatic, “guy I can drink a beer with” candidate.

I can’t say that Mitt Romney is straightforward, or that I’d want to drink a beer with him. I have a feeling he’d be trying to sell me something the whole time.

Just one more sign that abstinence only education so often pushed by the right does not work

Finding something honorable in her marrying the father? That is what we call damage control… it does not change the fact that the daughter of the right wing vice presidential candidate had pre marital sex. I guess the logic goes that even if one cannot get the message across to ones own child (Palin), then instead push it on the rest of america?

“. . . it does not change the fact that the daughter of the right wing vice presidential candidate had pre marital sex.”

Pre-marital sex!!1! God forbid! Lol, I hate to inform you, but pre-marital sex has been a part of society as long as the concept of marriage has existed. How does some 17 year old girl having sex before she is married change Palin’s qualifications for VP?

Also for the record Palin to my knowledge does not exclusively support abstinence education, she also supports contraceptive education. In either case her policy views have little to do with her skill as a parent.

Why not? There is nothing illogical about pushing a good message even if all do not receive it.

    Get a clue

This comment cracks me up, “Sarah Palin is more qualified for this position than any other high profile woman in the GOP.” What planet are you from? Let me guess, you have been listening to the GOP spin machine and you also probably fell for the line about her having experience in foreign policy because she is Governor of Alaska and it is close to Russia. McCain blew it with this pick although it was a good strategy for him (pick a woman and win the angry Hillary got a raw deal vote).

I’m from Earth, trust me buddy. “GOP spin machine”? Ha! You must be a first time visitor to this site (cough, troll, cough), because if you knew anything about this site you’d know that we fight the GOP establishment all of the time. Conservatives are rallying around Palin because, imagine this, she’s actually a conservative.

Yes, Sarah Palin has been through more negotiations with foreign nations than Barack Obama has (see: oil pipeline through Canada, international fishing waters shared with several other countries). Barack Obama’s “foreign experience” consisted of a rock concert tour through Europe to see adoring fans.

Maybe you weren’t aware, but Palin visited American troops in the Middle East some time, back on her own will; Obama only recently went to Iraq (first time since 2006 I believe? Correct me if I’m wrong) because he was shamed into doing so. Not to mention, as a U.S. Senator it should be much higher on his priority list as someone who votes on matters of war than for the Governor of Alaska. Alas, she still went because she felt it was the right thing to do, and he only went recently to burnish his “foreign policy” credentials. And how about that subcommittee involving Afghanistan that Obama chairs, yet has never held a hearing for?

Are you aware that U.S. missile defense systems are located in Alaska? And that they have units of the Guard there that are uniquely always active due to this? Do ya think that maybe, just maybe, due to this sensitive situation with the Alaska Guard that Gov. Palin has had some pretty high level briefings on these matters?

You know what, keep flinging this crap around, it amuses me that it drives people to compare Palin and OBAMA, rather than Palin and Biden… trust me buddy, you don’t want to have this argument, it will only expose your ticket’s #1 candidate’s shortcomings even when compared to our ticket’s #2.
