Walberg In Close Race

Written by Sam on September 5th, 2008

Tim Walberg is in a close race to retain his seat this year.  He is a freshman Congressman who won Michigan’s 7th District seat (Battle Creek, Jackson, Waverly) in 2006 after he knocked off the very liberal RINO Joe Schwartz in the Republican Primary  that year.  He went on to win in November, but by a very small margin.  It appears that is going to be the case again this year.  Walberg is running against Democrat State Senator Mark Schauer and the polling has the race pretty much neck and neck.  An EPIC-MRA poll shows Walberg leading Schauer 43-40.

The Schauer campaign recently put out a statement lying about Walberg’s record of not supporting tax increases:

“Tim Walberg says he never voted for a tax increase, but the record clearly shows that this is a lie. As a matter of fact, just last year he co-sponsored the national sales tax, HR 25, a bill that would make every day tax day in America. This extreme plan represents the largest tax hike in American history, as it would place a painful 23% tax on food, prescription drugs, gasoline and cars. Such a system would be devastating to Michigan’s working families and senior citizens. It’s clear that with Congressman Walberg, the little guy is always the last thing on his mind.”

What the statement is referring to is HR-25, otherwise known as the Fair Tax.  This 23% sales tax cited would REPLACE the Federal Income Tax and FICA, but of course Schauer press writer leaves that large piece out of it.  It would actually be a tax decrease for about 95% of Americans.  This is the same dishonesty that Democrat Inez Tenenbaum tried to spring on Senator Jim DeMint in the 2004 U.S. Senate race in South Carolina.

Walberg has been a reliable vote for conservatives.  Citizens Against Government Waste give him a rating 0f 90%, the highest of the entire Michigan delegation by far and was a Club for Growth backed candidate.  We don’t want to lose this guy so if you have a few bucks to spare, even if it’s only 5 or 10, try and throw him a contribution.

Awesome post! I love to hear the truth about Tim Walberg and the fair tax. It’s a decrease, Not an increase!
    Keep up the good work!
