Foxx Facing A Stronger Than Expected Challenge
Written by Sam on September 8th, 2008A recent poll put out by Democracy Corps has shown Virginia Foxx (NC-05, Statesville, Boone, Mount Airy) to be only treading water in her reelection bid to Congress this year. She is facing a tougher than expected reelection against retired high school football coach Roy Carter. The Democracy Corps poll shows Foxx and Carter to be statistically even with Foxx at 48% and Carter at 46%. Now it does need to be noted that this was a very small sample, under 100 people, and is probably skewed, but nonetheless nothing is to be taken for granted. Carter has been a stronger campaigner so far and the south isn’t so solid anymore for the GOP as we witnessed earlier this year when we lost two Congressional seats in Louisiana and Mississippi in special elections.
Virginia Foxx has been a reliable conservative vote in the Congress. Earlier this year she introduced the Federal Tax Withholding Act of 2008 which would eliminate the withholding of Federal taxes from your paycheck. In the last several months she has been a loud, outspoken advocate for domestic drilling and energy independence.
Additionally, she has been a staunch supporter for cracking down on illegal immigration, keeping taxes low, and restraining Congressional spending.
Her opponent, Roy Carter, has opposed drilling off of our shores. He has attacked Foxx for opposing Federal disaster aid to farmers in North Carolina, which was the fiscally responsible move for Foxx to make even though it may have hurt her with some constituents. Carter has also attempted to paint her has uncaring for American’s children because she stood up against the spread of Socialism by voting against the SCHIP program. In the end, I don’t think Carter’s smears are going to work and we will see Virginia Foxx elected to another term to D.C.

If its a sample of under 100 that means the margin is HUGE. I wouldn’t worry a bit. I know a bit about the district

I sure hope she does NOT get re-elected! None of my co-workers are voting for her. We need a change in the 5th district. Vote for Roy Carter.
