The Spending Surge
Written by Mike on September 11th, 2008The Wall Street Journal has an editorial that catalogs the numerous abuses to our national deficit, debt and Constitution that have resulted from out of control spending by President Bush, the Democrat Congress and their RINO allies.
Here’s a prediction: The media will report today that the federal budget deficit is big and getting bigger. What most of them won’t report, alas, is that the cause of these deficits is an explosion in federal spending. The era of big government is back, bigger than ever.
Look at this chart and weep.

We hope Congress and the Presidential candidates don’t obsess over the deficit per se, because the real fiscal drag from government comes from how much it spends, not how much it borrows.
I had to laugh as I read the above passage. Bush and Congress worry about the deficit?! Surely you jest. As for McCain and Obama they are both falling all over themselves out-pledging each other to spend your money more wisely than you could have ever managed.

Thanks for depressing me so early in the morning.

Sorry. It is depressing though isn’t it? I mean I knew spending was out of control, but staring at the raw figures can be down right painful.

Like I said, we’re on our way to Socialism and nobody is going to stop it.

By the time many people figure out what’s going on it will be very difficult to reverse so of these trends in federal spending.

This is just pathetic.

Not to worry! These are percentage growth statistics, not total outlays. Defense still outspends ‘community development’ by a few orders of magnitude. Feel better?

“Defense still outspends ‘community development’ by a few orders of magnitude. Feel better?”
Since defense spending is constitutional and “community development” isn’t, yes I do feel better. But I think you are missing the point. The government is growing and should be shrinking.

So we can add the Paulson bailout to the ‘community development’ column then?

“he media will report today that the federal budget deficit is big and getting bigger. What most of them won’t report, alas, is that the cause of these deficits is an explosion in federal spending”
Of course it’s because of an explosion in federal spending. The deficit means that we are spending more money than we are earning. A growing deficit means we are spending more money than we used to be. Many in the news media have reported the daily cost of the war in Iraq, and secretary Paulson’s bailout is all over the news. These seem to be our primary increases in expenses lately.
