Where’s Palin?
Written by Benaiah on September 26th, 2008Anyone else tired of not seeing her? Either this is the biggest rope-a-dope in history, ie. they as in the McCain Camp want to lower expectations completely before the VP debate, or what I am beginning to fear is that she now is seen by the campaign as a liability.

In a certain sense, I’m glad Palin isn’t exposed right now. I think the timing for her will be better as the VP debates draw closer.
While the Couric interview is still fresh in people’s minds, I would expect anything the did to be reacted to very critically.

She was at the International House of Pancakes boning up on her lack of any foreign relations experience..The cook knew more than she did…..tick, tick, tick, how soon will it be that she will drop out to go home to be a mom and take care of her family???

But Mr. Cynical, Alaska is right next to Russia!
I agreed with the writers on this blog that Obama’s claim that living in another country gave him foreign policy experience was a little weak.
I hope that you will agree with me that living IN a foreign country provides a greater perspective on international issues than living NEAR a foreign country and not even getting a passport until 2007.

From Ed Schultz:
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people
are more than concerned about Palin.
The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as “disastrous.” One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, “What are we going to do?” The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is “clueless.”

She is making comments… and then the campaign is retracting them.
At a stupid cliche campaign tradition this week (I know both parties do it, but it’s still stupid and cliche), getting a cheesesteak in Philadelphia, she was asked about crossing the border into Pakistan to deal with terrorism.
As you may recall, Obama supports such a plan and McCain does not.
Palin replied “”If that’s what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should,” Palin said.” In other words, Obama’s plan and not McCain’s.
As reported this morning, “Sen. John McCain retracted Sarah Palin’s stance on Pakistan Sunday morning, after the Alaska governor appeared to back Sen. Barack Obama’s support for unilateral strikes inside Pakistan against terrorists
“She would not…she understands and has stated repeatedly that we’re not going to do anything except in America’s national security interest,” McCain told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos”
Now, those of us who aren’t drinking the Sarah Palin kool-aid already know that being able to see Russia from part of her state doesn’t make her a foreign policy expert, so this is no surprise. Here’s what really bothers me about this incident, though.
McCain went on to say “n told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos of Palin. “In all due respect, people going around and… sticking a microphone while conversations are being held, and then all of a sudden that’s—that’s a person’s position… This is a free country, but I don’t think most Americans think that that’s a definitve policy statement made by Governor Palin.”"
Um, when a voter asks you your position on an important issue, yes, we expect you to give your actual position. We expect the same of Obama and Biden and both get called on it when they change their views.

David #1: Wow, Ed Schultz was critical of a Republican. Thanks for the update. Now I’m off to a liberal website to inform them that Sean Hannity thinks that Joe Biden is a doofus. I’m sure they’ll all be shocked.
Davis #2 (aka Shiffman): I’m sure you don’t have any problems with Joe Biden’s straying from Obama’s ranch, right? After all, Joe Biden is the second-smartest-person-in-the-world-behind-Barack-Obama.

More importantly than my views, Celtic, are the views of the actual candidates.
Obama doesn’t have a problem with Biden straying from his ranch. Biden has appeared on dozens of TV interviews since being announced as VP.
McCain has a problem with Palin and hasn’t let her speak to reporters. One of the alarmingly few times she’s said something that the public gets to hear, McCain retracts it.

Also, Obama bought Biden on because of his national security and foreign policy experience, so should welcome foreign policy advice from him.
I’m not cynical enough to think that McCain brought Palin on simply because of her gender to woo disaffected Clinton voters, but she certainly wasn’t brought on for her brilliance in national security and foreign policy.

David,
How about Palin’s expertise in energy policy and fighting corruption? You never seem to mention those….

PM
Neophyte,
How about Obama’s ability to inspire people? You never talk about that without allusions to cults and the “Obamessiah”.

First, when have I said that?
Second, how is that relevant? You alluded to McCain’s choice of Palin, and I offered her two areas of expertise (energy and fighting corruption) to justify McCain’s decision. I never even discussed Obama.

Inspire them to what? Hitler inspired people. Whats your point?
