Sanford Elected Chairman of Republican Governors Association

There are some positive changes starting. Sanford is an excellent choice for this position.
COLUMBIA — Gov. Mark Sanford has been charged by the nation’s Republican governors to lead their association through the toughest times the GOP party has faced since 1994.
The two-term South Carolina governor was elected by his peers Friday to serve as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, the same day the Washington Post mentioned him as a potential candidate for president in 2012.

Will be interesting to see how he works with Nick Ayers and Paul Bennecke.

Excellent choice. Probably the strongest fiscal conservative out of the bunch.

Hmmmm. I’ve always liked Mark Sanford - I even wrote him back in ‘06 asking him to run for Prez. He lacks in the charisma department, though.

Great choice. I think that it is correct that the Republican leadership in the next two years at least comes from the governors.

Hey the governor sure has moved up quick.

Not sure where someone would think he lacks charisma. This is a guy that hauled a pig into the state legislature in front of the news cameras to bring attention to the pork in the state budget. Even more interesting was that the legislature is GOP controlled as well. He has a pair thats for sure.

I’m a huge Mark Sanford fan, so I think this is a great development for the conservatives in trying to take the party back.
Even though we may be “purists,” around here, let’s cut to the chase. Though a lot of Republican Governors may not be RINOs per se, it is a rare one who has the gonads of Gov. Sanford to go to the mattresses for limited government and personal freedom.
I wouldn’t call Gov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia a RINO, for example. But I still can’t stand him, he is way too comfortable going with the flow. He’s also way to hardheaded in his ways to allow the voters of Georgia to independently decide whether they can buy alcohol on a Sunday. Good Lord (pun intended), heaven forbid we could buy beer to watch an NFL game.

I would think you would applaud Governor Perdue for standing on principle…
And yes, I think Governor Sanford lacks charisma. He is boring in interviews and speeches. I like the guy and wanted him to run for President, but that’s just my opinion of him.

Call it “standing on principle” if you want. I don’t care much for the principle of one man telling everyone in a state they can’t even have the right to vote to allow alcohol sales on a certain day of the week in their locality.

Don’t forget he got elected on getting flag issue on the ballot as a public referendum. Thankfully he never followed through on his promise and left it for the legislature to sort out.

I will never forgive Sonny for that. The people of Georgia should have had a choice of their flag and they were denied that by their “elites” who knew what was best for them.
