But not for voting in favor of it…..
Now, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is under attack by some liberal bloggers for insisting that Congress remove nearly $900 million from the stimulus bill that would have gone to fighting an influenza pandemic.
The money was dropped from the bill and Collins (and two other Republican senators) voted for it. Among others, John Nichols of The Nation, now accuse Collins of “just playing politics, in the exceptionally narrow and irresponsible manner that characterized the Republican response to the stimulus debate.”

Let me evaluate this for a minute here.
Flu pandemic money …………………. stimulus package
Flu pandemic money …………………. stimulus package
You know, I just don’t see a connection either. The two don’t seem to fit to me, so exactly what did Collins do wrong (aside from voting to pass the entire bill)? So according to this weenie, John Nichols, Collins fights to have irrelevant spending removed from the porkulus bill which makes her guilty of “just playing politics,” but Nichols who is exploiting the swine flu “outbreak” (of which all of about 50 people in the entire country have contracted and none have died, but run and get your blue mask and cover your windows with plastic and duct tape) to make a partisan attack on Susan Collins while ignoring Democrats like Schmuck Schumer, who also said that funding didn’t belong there, is not “just playing politics.” No, not Nichols.
They are grasping for straws seeing nobody actually read this bill before passing it.
BTW… I am actually public health spending when it comes to pandemics. Human history tells us we need to be prepared for such things and they can be politically, economically, and socially destabilizing.
Collins isn’t opposed to the funding, she just said that it didn’t belong in a stimulus bill and she was correct.
Sam is right. Nothing was stopping Congress from bringing up a second bill for such spending after the “economic emergency” stimulus bill passed.
Both sides put the other under the microscope and will use whatever they can to attack the other… so why the shock?
The best way to make nonsense like this stop is to not acknowledge it in the first place.
