The race in NY-23 is a microcosm of why the GOP is still the primary enemy of conservatives in this country. In NY-23 Republicans are a solid majority of voters. This isn’t a blue district or a toss up but a solid GOP stronghold.

Fred Thompson does a much better job than I of deconstructing this disaster.

Surprise, surprise Newt Gingrich is supporting this woman who would be the single most liberal member of the House GOP Caucus.

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells NRO that he is sure that endorsing Republican Dede Scozzafava in the upcoming special election in New York’s 23rd congressional district was the right thing to do. “I endorsed the Republican who has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, opposes the Obama health plan, signed the ‘no-tax-increase’ pledge, and supports a comprehensive energy plan like I do,” says Gingrich.
.
Third-party candidates like conservative Doug Hoffman, Scozzafava’s challenger, often serve only to divide the GOP, says Gingrich. “Just look at what’s happening in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race,” he says, pointing to the campaign of independent candidate Chris Daggett, who has siphoned support from Republican candidate Chris Christie. “What’s happening in New York and in New Jersey should be a sober warning to every purist in this country.”
.
“If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority,” says Gingrich. “That’s not how Reagan built his revolution or how we won back the House in 1994.”

There is so much wrong with this drivel that I don’t even know where to begin but first I would say to Newt, “This is why no one wants to support you for president.” This guy is a RINO’s RINO.

Newt likes to use words like “purist” and “perfect minority” to slander conservatives that actually want to see conservative legislation enacted in this country. For guys like Gingrich, it doesn’t matter what happens after the ballots have been counted so long as the red team won the game. Actually passing conservative legislation isn’t a part of this process, just getting “the right people” into power is what counts.

Guys like Newt love to point out how conservatives can’t hope to win unless we support liberals for office (and they literally can’t get anymore liberal than Scozzafava, but to be fair she is about average for the New York assembly) but he has a very different definition of win than conservatives do. For us winning is when we reduce the size of government, improve national security, reduce the scope of federal power and respect the Constitution.

For Newt, and the other RINOs, winning is about winning elections plain and simple. The aftermath is irrelevant. Power is all that counts, what is done with that power is meaningless. This is why conservatives and RINOs will never peacefully coexist. We fundamentally want different things.

RINOs will throw any issue out with the bath water for victory. There is not a single idea they will stand their ground on. If it stands between them and electoral glory they will overnight become pro-union, pro-abortion, anti-war, pro big government, pro higher spending and pro higher taxes. Don’t believe me? Look at Scozzafava, she is a living example of the depths to which they will sink. And they folded so easily for a reason, they could have won without giving up the farm, but that would have required effort and more importantly, conviction and ideals.

What the RINOs don’t get is that our backs are to the wall. We are in a lose-lose situation right now. What is the practical difference between Scozzafava winning NY-23 and the Democrat winning? Nothing. Either way conservatives lose big. If we have nothing left to lose we’ll burn down the party before we see it become another version of the Democrats. When you give us no other options everybody will lose.

The RINOs say we must compromise our values or we won’t get their support. I would tell the RINOs to compromise their values instead but they don’t use them anyway. The truth is that unless the GOP runs reasonably conservative Republicans in reasonably conservative districts (like NY-23) then the party won’t get the voter turnout they need to pull out a win or worse a third party candidate like Doug Hoffman will swoop in either upsetting the apple cart and making it impossible for the “Republican” or making it possible for the Democrat to win in a GOP district.

If the GOP wants to win then they’ll play by our rules or they’ll continue to lose. Conservatives aren’t going to watch this country fall apart at the hands of socialists and not take some drastic political action. The GOP is fooling itself if they think this is the good ole days.

The RINOs at the NRCC and the RNC along with men like Newt Gingrich are a cancer in this party. Until they are purged we will continue to flounder in the wilderness.

Support Doug Hoffman and break the power of the establishment GOP.

I’m glad Newt has been exposed. I’ve grown tired of friends who casually follow politics putting Newt up there as a leader of the party. Why has Sean Hannity not called him out on this? He is on every other Fox News show talking a good game, but we see clearly now why his speakership failed.
For those who hunger for a solid conservative in the New York congressional delegation, check out Greg Ball, who is running in 2010.

Mike, you nailed it! When a politician has no core principles a voter just never knows what to expect. Their principles should always be at the heart of every position espoused and every vote they make if elected. “Moderates” who promote bipartisanship just to sound good rarely do their constituents or the country as a whole any good. Just stand for what is right and true to the constitution and eventually we might get the country back on track to prosperity, growth and opportunity for everyone.

Sad thing is this is not a liberal or even a moderate district, but arguably the most conservative district in the state.

Anyone with half an ounce of common sense knows you need to have the support of the Conservative Party too in upstate New York.

Beck unloading on Dede right now….Doug Hoffman now on….

  5. ChemistryDave says:

Well, Hoffman should get some money out of that appearance on Beck, but boy……..Hoffman has all of the charisma of a ball of yarn. If he wins, it wont be because of his sunny personality.

Dede’s arguments are why the GOP will be routed once again in 2010. Wake up and smell the coffee. From lifelong Republican who’s been forced to vote Democrat lately.

In 2008, GOP’s spokespersons (Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Palin, & O’Reilly) attempted guilt by association with folks most voters never heard of to demonize their opponents — resulting in a rout at the polls. In contrast, 70% of the voters used guilt by association against supporters of losers (as defined by most voters) like Cheney, Scooter Libby, & Bush, Jr., against hypocritic adulterers like Ensign and Gingrich, and against those opposed to Amerca’s freedoms (like freedom of choice as to our bodies, our marriage partners, and our health care providers). Today, said GOP spokespersons, plus Dede, appear to be trying for another GOP rout in 2010.

Keith, if that were true, Hoffman wouldn’t be winning. Dede Scozzafava is not a Republican by any stretch of the imagination. She is a full fledged Democrat who has an R next to her name. It does no good to elect Republicans to vote just like Democrats. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
