Myron Cope Has Passed

In more sad news this week, Steelers icon Myron Cope passed away.  I heard it on the news this morning on my way coming into work.  Having lived in Pittsburgh for many years I am very disheartened by this, but not surprised.  His health hadn’t been very well lately, but it’s still shocking all the same.

  • Poll Question

Will Notre Dame win by more or less than the average 20 point margin of victory over Georgia Tech tomorrow?

I’ll vote “less”.  We’re only going to win by two touchdowns, 27-13.

  • Way too many bowl games

NCAA approves 32 bowl games for next season

The 32 bowls are: Alamo, Allstate Sugar, AT&T Cotton, AutoZone Liberty, BCS National Championship, Bell Helicopter Armed Forces, Brut Sun, Capital One, Champs Sports, Chick-fil-A, Emerald, Fed Ex Orange, Gator, Gaylord Hotels Music City, GMAC, Humanitarian, Insight, International, Meineke Car Care, Motor City, New Mexico, Outback, Pacific Life Holiday, Papajohns.com, PetroSun Independence, Pioneer Pure Vision Las Vegas, R L Carriers New Orleans, Rose, San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia, Sheraton Hawaii, Texas and Tostitos Fiesta.

So 64 of 118 teams, more than half, are going to a bowl game next year.  My personal favorite is the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

  • How dumb can you be?

MIAMI — Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick reluctantly surrendered a water bottle to security at Miami International Airport that smelled like marijuana and contained a substance in a hidden compartment.

  • “Pops” Injured

Oh no, my heart sank at this news. Though he’s supposed to be back for the big dance, all us GW folks here have to hope (and dare I say pray) that he’s 100% by then.

  • STEELERS WIN! STEELERS WIN!

The “PowerRankings” posted a month and a half ago by a paper at GW:

#13 (5) Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) – The second floor you say? No it had to have been the penthouse because that was one heck of a free fall. From 5 to 13… I know, I know but they losing to the Bengals was the nail in the coffin, that’s it they’re done for the season and so is Roethlisberger. If he’s smart he’d admit he broke his hand and get it fixed now, but you know him he won’t and he’ll continue to play with it.

    I won’t gloat… or talking about how wrong this kid was… nooo… not me….

  • The ‘Skins keep winning…

so I’ll keep posting something on it.

In other local news, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) is reported to be working hard for the whip position. Is the whip position up in the leadership elections as well, or is he just gambling on Blunt becoming Majority Leader?

Elsewhere in Virginia, Rep. Bob Goodlatte is campaigning for Roy Blunt.

If you’re following the House GOP fights, you’ve got to be reading the Hotline On Call.

UPDATE: K-Lo is saying Cantor has 92 commitments, which would put him just over 20 votes from becoming the next majority whip. This is a good thing. Cantor is almost perfect on right to life issues, dating back to his days in the Virginia General Assembly. He consistently scores high on ACU ratings (lifetime: 98). He’s one of us.

Redskins sweep Dallas, knock them out of playoffs, return to the playoffs… win Superbowl? I love Joe Gibbs.
